Le tournesol est une plante d’origine am\u00e9rindienne qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 ramen\u00e9e en Europe \u00e0 la fin du XVIe si\u00e8cle. Les Am\u00e9rindiens l’utilisaient pour ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s nutritionnelles et m\u00e9dicinales. Le terme attribu\u00e9 au tournesol vient du grec helios, le soleil et anthos, la fleur qui se traduit par la fleur du soleil.<\/p>

Bien s\u00fbr, cela est d\u00fb \u00e0 la forme rayonnante de la fleur, un jaune vif rappelant le soleil. De plus, le mot tournesol est emprunt\u00e9 \u00e0 l’italien girasole, qui tourne avec le soleil.
